Our stay at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach, CA was provided for us at the standard media rate. Despite receiving a discounted price, all reviews are my own thoughts and opinions about our experience.
About a year ago, my husband and I moved from our little beach town in Manhattan Beach, California up to the San Francisco Bay Area where I grew up. We (read: I) wanted to be near family to make raising our own family just a bit easier. However, we both desperately miss Manhattan Beach and try to get back down there every chance we get. So when the opportunity arose for us to take a mini-Babymoon, we immediately decided on Manhattan Beach, and knew Shade Hotel right in the heart of downtown Manhattan beach would be the perfect splurge for this special trip!
Manhattan Beach is much more than just a sleepy beach town. In fact, it's quite the opposite. With world-class dining (Zinc Lounge, MB Post, The Strand House, Rockefeller, to name a few), incredible shopping, envy-worthy weather, and a stunning beach walkway known as The Strand, it is the coastal California place to be. (Why I ever left, I couldn't tell you ...!) I highly suggest you add a visit to Manhattan Beach at the top of your bucket list. And if you're going to stay anywhere, Shade Hotel is is by far where you want to be!
Shade Hotel is the only luxury boutique hotel in Manhattan Beach and is really the only hotel situated right in the heart of the charming downtown area. It is literally steps away from some of the most delicious restaurants in the country and just a few blocks from the beach (there is no hotel in Manhattan Beach on the beach, so this is the closest you can get!). The view from our balcony looked out to the ocean, which is just two short blocks away down the main drag on Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
The guest rooms at Shade Hotel are outfitted in soft greens and blues as a tribute to the hues of the nearby ocean. With an open concept, the rooms are large and inviting, while also providing guests with a feeling of home - a place you truly never want to leave. You are provided with all of the luxuries you would expect from a premier hotel in Los Angeles, including a delectable complimentary breakfast, a rooftop skydeck with a relaxation pool, complimentary beach cruisers for riding along The Strand, complimentary access to the nearby Equinox Fitness Club, and much more.
One of my favorite things to do is eat delicious food, and Manhattan Beach restaurants do not disappoint. I would suggest visiting Manhattan Beach solely for the caliber of food at nearly every local restaurant. One of my absolute favorite dishes in all of Manhattan Beach are these pear and brie crostini from Shade Hotel's Zinc Lounge. When we held our Southern California Teachers Pay Teachers Meet-Up in 2016 at Zinc Lounge, I honestly ate about 16 of these!
Needless to say, our experience at Shade Hotel was above and beyond any and all of our expectations. The front desk staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, which I could tell was something they do for every guest at the hotel. Each person we ran into who was a part of the staff was truly kind and genuinely happy to help us with whatever it is that we needed. We had an unforgettable Babymoon in Manhattan Beach thanks in large part to our experience at Shade. I would highly recommend making Shade Hotel a stop along any Southern California or Los Angeles trip you have coming up!
